What is Tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide, an inorganic compound with chemical formula SnS2. It is an yellow hexagonal flake that has an CdI2 crystal structure. It is not soluble in water, but it's water-soluble in aqua regia. It is also soluble in hot alkaline solution, and it is also soluble within sodium sulfide Solution, often used as golden paint.

Tin disulfide is insoluble in the hot alkali solution. It can undergo coordination reactions with concentrated hydrochloric acid, but it is not soluble in dilute acid as well as insoluble in water and in nitric acid. It can also react with ammonium sulfur to dissolve.

How do you make tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide is made by directly combining tin and sulfur with Iodine. The reaction requires the heating process:

Sn + 2 S -- SnS2

Another option is to pour hydrogen sulfide into the solution of either tin (IV) salts, also known as tin (IV) salt solution and melt it.

Electrochemical properties of multi-walled carbon Nanotubes, confined with tin disulfide used as the negative electrodes in lithium ion battery

The direct current arc plasma technique was employed to produce multi-walled carbon Nanotube-confined tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as an initial precursor in a methane environment, and later SnS_2@MWCNT-like nanostructures were fabricated by the process of sulfurization. The results from the physical characterization of the substance, including Raman, X-ray diffracted (XRD), and Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM) showed that the size of multi-walled carbon Nanotubes was 400nm. The Carbon layer on the surface had been crystallized, as was the layer's thickness 10 nm. Lithium-ion-based batteries using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures as anode materials have an impressive electrochemical performance. The initial charge-discharge Coulomb yield is 71%, even after 50 times the capacity is still at 703 mAh?g-1. The high-capacity characteristics of SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructured electrodes come from the fact that a wide range of active substances provide the capability together, and the reactant platform of each is unique to each material.

Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery

A novel composite material made of SnS2 along with carbon nanotubes that are single-walled (SWCNTs) was produced using simple solvothermal methods. It is found to have excellent electrochemical characteristics after being added to the negatively electrode material of lithium Ion batteries. At a very high current density of 1 A/g, after 100 cycle, it still has a reversible capacity of more than 510 milliamps/g. For comparison, we utilized the same technique to make a single SnS2 material and conducted studies on electrochemistry on the material. The results reveal that while the initial capacities of SnS2 material is quite excellent, the cycle efficiency is low, and decreases rapidly after less than 20 cycles. The higher efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is thought to be due to the synergy between the two components comprising SnS2 as well as SWCNTs.
